A commemorative event in memory of the millions of victims of the Holocaust, one of the darkest chapters in world history, took place at the Limenas Middle School on the island of Thassos
Maria Dermentzi, a researcher at Paris-Saclay University involved in the EU CERV Avalanche project, delivered a talk about the reasons that led to the rise of Nazism and the Second World War, the dominance of Hitler and the Nazi propaganda promoting racial superiority, as well as the targeting and systematic extermination of Jews and other demographic groups, and the timeless lessons that history offers us.
The presentation was accompanied by a rich collection of photographic material and testimonies from Jewish survivors. Students and pupils watched attentively, participated actively, asked questions, and received meaningful stimuli for reflection.
The role of the school is to teach that intolerance and racist violence have led to devastating consequences, and to inspire children with the values of peace, respect, and coexistence.
🕯️ Lest we forget. We are learning. We are being taught.
