Battipaglia, Bellizzi, Eboli, Montecorvino Pugliano, Montecorvino Rovella, Olevano sul Tusciano, and Salerno—seven municipalities that have joined forces to prepare a robust dossier of approximately 200 pages—are presenting a credible candidacy to compete with those of other iconic Italian sites.
The European Heritage Label is a special action under the Creative Europe program. It involves awarding recognition to cultural heritage sites in Europe that have particular symbolic value and/or play an important role in European history and culture or in the construction of the European Union.
The process will be lengthy (starting with the Italian pre-selection phase, where two sites are chosen, followed by the European selection). However, the collective effort of the seven municipalities, which decided on September 9th to collaborate decisively on this challenge, has a great significance. With guidance from mayors and councilors, numerous professionals worked together to prepare this document (in both Italian and English), coordinated by the Municipality of Battipaglia with the support of the Mubat association.
One result has already been achieved: a group of municipalities, to which we hope many more will be added, has chosen to jointly promote this event, which is so important for both Italian and European history.
