Avalanche Day, an History telling event to join history, memory and awesomenes

Remembrance of the Allied landing has combined history, memory and spectacle with a reenactment show, held in an evening context on 14th September. An historical narration enriched by artistic moments that helped to involve more public, without losing sight of the main objective: to keep alive the memory of the events of the Second World War and to underline the value of Peace and Freedom.

The evening opened with greetings from Councilor Cerullo, representing the Mayor of Battipaglia Cecilia Francese, who underlined the relevance of the topics addressed: “The past is not so distant from us. Today we live in a world still characterized by conflicts and instability. It is essential to remember what happened to underline the importance of peace and our commitment to building a future without war“. The blessing of Father Vincenzo introduced the usual throwing of roses into the sea, the White Roses Ceremony, a tribute to all those fallen in war.

The second part of the evening was marked by the artistic performances of the actor Luca Landi and the singer Valeria Graziani, accompanied on classical guitar by Maestro Maurizio Crivello. A series of original testimonies and songs from the war period were proposed to tell the story of the moments that preceded and followed the Landing.

A reenactment was held at the end, in collaboration with Noi soldati al fronte ‘43-‘45 and interspersed with stories and readings by the narrator Giuseppina Sessa. Letters from ordinary soldiers and General Gonzaga were cited, as well as writings by Norman Lewis from Naples 44 and quotes from Pulitzer Prize winner John Steinbeck.
Dancers from various dance schools in the area, together with the dancer Maria Grazietti and guided by the Masters Leon Cino and Luca Calzolaro, performed choreographies created specifically for the show, combining the power of movement with the depth of historical memory.

Dancers were involved in an intensive 3-day training course with the choreographers, to enrich their technical background and involve them in the historical artistic narrative.
