On January 8th, a memorandum of understanding was signed by the Municipal Administrations of Battipaglia, Eboli, Bellizzi, Olevano Sul Tusciano, Montecorvino Pugliano, Montecorvino Rovella, Salerno, and Altavilla Silentina. The protocol supports the “Lands of Operation Avalanche” project, which has been submitted for the European Heritage Label and more broadly aims to promote the history of the Battle of Salerno in September 1943.

The signing of the agreement by participating mayors was promoted by the cultural association Mubat as part of the international CERV European Remembrance “Avalanche” project, in collaboration with the Universities of Versailles and Thessaloniki, the CDEC in Milan, and the Heritage Lab in Turin.
The ceremony was held in the Salone dei Marmi of the Town Hall of Salerno, an extremely evocative place for having hosted the first Italian anti-fascist unitary government in 1944.

The European Heritage Label is a special action of the Creative Europe program, designed to recognize cultural heritage sites in Europe with significant symbolic value and/or a critical role in the history and culture of Europe and/or in the construction of the European Union.
The journey is still long, but today a significant new step has been achieved..
