15 April: workshop “Digital Emergence” at Turin Heritage Lab

Artificial Intelligence and Linked Open Data: technologies supporting digital processes, knowledge creation, and cultural heritage dissemination.

15 April 2026, 9:30, Italgas Heritage Lab

The cultural association Mubat, in collaboration with the partners of the Avalanche Project — Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-YvelinesAristotle University of ThessalonikiFondazione CDEC, and Italgas Heritage Lab — is organizing in Turin the workshop “Digital Emergence”, the eighth edition of a training and dissemination programme active since 2019.

The annual workshop programme aims to share experiences and expertise in the field of technologies applied to cultural heritage. This year’s edition has received the patronage of ANAI (Associazione Nazionale Archivistica Italiana – Italian National Archival Association). Heritage Lab has also promoted its inclusion among the initiatives of the National Made in Italy Day.

In particular, this year’s edition starts from the observation that, in recent years, cultural heritage professionals have undergone a significant transformation. This change has been driven, on the one hand, by the increasing centrality of the web as a space for access to and sharing of knowledge, and on the other hand by the growing availability of large-scale digital resources, which are expected to increase significantly in the coming years thanks to the implementation of national digitisation programmes.

This scenario clearly introduces new opportunities, but also relevant challenges: the mere digitisation of documents and cultural objects, if not accompanied by an appropriate rethinking of processes, risks producing vast digital collections that are difficult to query and reuse.
